CANBERRA, THE BUSH CAPITAL..
Canberra, located at the northern end of the Australian Capital Territory, is the capital city of Australia. It is the eighth largest Australian city conceived in the early 1900s in order to create a capital city in a federal State separate from any of the uniting States. It is Australia’s largest inland city housing a population of around 345,000 people. As the seat of the government of Australia, Canberra is the site of Parliament House, Canberra is known as one of the greatest capitals of the world. It is Australia’s only completely planned city, surrounded by bush and farmland, earning it the nickname the ‘Bush Capital’.
CLIMATE
Nestled in the surrounding high grass plains, shimmering and heat-parched in summer and often dusted with snow in winter, climate in Canberra is a relatively dry continental climate with warm to hot summers and cool to cold winters. Canberra experiences warm, quite dry summers, and chilly winters with heavy fog and frequent frosts with highest recorded maximum temperature was 42.2 °C (108 °F) and lowest recorded minimum temperature was ?10.0 °C (14 °F).

Canberra is an ultimate tourist hub surrounded by a semi circle of mountains. An interesting feature is the Lake Burley Griffin, an artificial lake made alongside a dam on the Molongolo River. Canberra International Airport provides direct domestic services to all the Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. The Canberra airport lies 8km east of Canberra. It has excellent facilities almost as organized and well-planned as the city itself, consisting of a passenger terminal and general aviation facility on the western side of the main runway.

TRANSPORT
Cars are the main form of transport in Canberra. However, ACTION- a public bus services network operated by the government is also widely used. All of the major areas in Canberra can be reached by public transport, with a fairly frequent service around the city with reasonable fares that are proportional to the length of the journey. For transport around the main tourist sites, one must travel by the ACTION buses or the Murray’s Canberra explorer and have an amazing experience at the 18 different sites shown.
